A good friend of mine, Adrian Lozinski, whom I incidentally met on the Internet, was at StarQuest with this scope (the base construction is solid .4" aluminum), which I have nicknamed 'Roboscope.' He has it motorized in one axis, azimuth, and plans altitude motorization soon. Despite it's current appearence this scope used to be an Orion Dobsonian before he reworked it. |
The former Vice President of S*T*A*R, Don Odegard, took a week of his time and put together this beautiful piece of craftmanship. This is Don's 14.5" f/6 Truss-Dob that not only stunned other amateurs at the star party, but also Don himself! "It works! It really works," exclaims Don. M22 was a beautiful sight in this scope on Friday night. |
Starmaster Telescopes are no longer found exclusively in the mid-west, near to the manufacturer, any longer. Jim Gedis purchased this 18" f/4.5 Starmaster Truss-Dob and has been very pleased with it. There is nothing cheap about this scope with it's Pegasus mirror, Astrosystems Secondary system and outstanding craftsmanship. I was quite impressed with the view of M22, which seemed a hot object, on Friday night. |
Dan Pontone, former President of S*T*A*R, christened this area the "Valley of the Dobs"; consiquently no refractors were allowed. :-( I could have brought my Dob over, but I felt bad about leaving my precious long-focus refractor behind. |
