Like it's 20" brother, this 15" Tectron Truss-Dob was put together with great care. The oversized bearings which give the scope a great motion in altitude are a great addition. |
What a piece of workmanship! This scope is heavy duty in every essence of the word. Astro-Physics makes really great scopes, but apparently the owner doesn't agree with that. Ol' Eagle Eye Dan (Dan Pontone, ex-presidente of the STAR Astronomy Club, that is) kept a watchful eye out on the scope and says that the owner never once went over to use the scope. I can vouch that the scope sat in the same position all weekend, though. What a waste of a perfectly good scope! |
This a view down one of the rows in the observing field. Despite the decent weather forcasts the turn out of observers was lack-luster to say the least. Encroaching light pollution to this site may also be driving away observers. Both nights this weekend had the sky darken to about magnitude 5/5.5 or equalling that of Colliers Mills (STAR Astronomy Club's observing site). |
