All primary mirrors for Teeter's Planetary Killers come from one of two opticians, R.F. Royce or Mark D. Harry. We have found both to be extremely excellent mirror makers with neither getting an edge over the other, nor will we recommend one over the other. The choice is your's, but you really cannot go wrong either way.
Our supplier of secondary mirrors is Astrosystems, thus all of the mirror comes with enhanced coatings and are guaranteed to be 1/10-wave or better surface quality.
Precision Mirror Cells custom manufacturers all of the mirror cells used in Teeter's Planetary Killers. They are extremely well-built, extremely precise and deliver the support needed to allow your top of the line mirror provide you with killer planetary images.
All of the spiders and secondary mirror holders are manufactured by Gary Wolanski, based in Vancouver, Canada. His work has been recognized at many telescope making conventions and competitions and his products are picking up steam among fellow telescope makers. Teeter's Telescopes is proud to be the first telescope manufacturer to utilize Gary Wolanski's innovative off-set spider design.
Here at Teeter's Telescopes we believe in using nothing but the best, because the last thing you want is to have to upgrade your scope right after you purchase it. With that in mind we use the best focuser currently available to the amateur astronomer, Starlight Instruments' Feathertouch focuser. With dual speed focusing action, you'll be able to get that pin-point star image and be able to pick out those subtle details in Jupiter's North and South Equitorial regions. With other focusers you may very well have missed those details.
The Truss System found on all Teeter's Planetary Killers is the unique, and extremely simple to connect, ball and socket design manufactured by Moonlite Instruments. Each end of each truss pole has a small delrin ball that fits snuggly into a delrin socket which is connected to both the mirror box and to the UTA. Truss Poles also come directly from Moonlite and are 1" Outside Diameter Clear Anodized Aluminum for long life and high strength.
We employ a lightweight and easily transportable single ring UTA made from 1/4" 6061 aluminum sheet. We then route out a circle and have the ring sent off to be anodized flat black. We then connect the focuser board using two 8x32 bolts and two threaded aluminum inserts through the UTA ring, yielding an extremely rigid connection of focuser board to UTA.
Mirror box, rockerbox and ground boards are all constructed from 1/2" Baltic Birch plywood, also known as Appleply, Multi-ply and Hardwood Core Hardwood Veneer. This is expensive wood and it shows when it is properly sanded and treated. Your scope will be a piece of furniture that you are not afraid to let stand in the living room for guests to see.
All joints are nailed and glued together with West Marine Epoxy, which gives an ultra high strength and ultra long life bond. You'll never have to worry about the scope "coming apart at the seams."
The wood is then finished with your choice of stain:
Cherry
Natural
Red Mahogany
And finally finished with three coats of High Gloss Marine Spar Varnish to keep the color as rich 10 years down the road as when you first received the scope and to give the scope an eye-catching apeal.
