Wooden Eyepiece Rack Specs and Options

The Concept:

An observing buddy of mine once commented, "You've really got it all thought out, having everything within arms reach." He, of course, was refering to the eyepiece racks I had mounted on the side of my 8" f/6 Dobsonian. No longer do I get the ever elusive M74 centered up in the field of view of my 22mm eyepiece and then lose it because I had to leave the telescope to get a higher power eyepiece. Now I grab and go! With my eyepieces only a few inches from my finger tips at all times, when I'm at my scope, I can switch magnifications without losing the object. I also don't have to fumble around in my eyepiece case in the dark in order to find the right eyepiece.

Teeter's Telescopes and Accessories' eyepiece racks are manufactured to add flare and make your scope look more professional. Our eyepiece racks are not thin, flimsy, metal but are treated plywood, combining structural stability and professional looks. They are built to be used and will stand up to it and also built to blend as seemlessly as possible with your scope, whether it is commercially-made (Discovery, Orion, Meade, Obsession, Starmaster, etc) or home-made.

Construction Materials:

Staying true to our beliefs, we give you, the customer, a great degree of freedom when you order our eyepiece racks, but we do have our preferences when it comes to what species of wood to manufacture the eyepiece racks out of, Baltic Birch.

Currently we offer:

1/2" Baltic Birch Plywood
, this is the prefered material since it has a superior finish and grain pattern if stained and varnished or left unpainted.

Finishes and Top-coats:

We understand there are black scopes, white scopes, yellow scopes, natural stained scopes, cherry stained scopes, maple stained scopes, etc. and we like to cater to your needs. We offered a variety of stains and polyurethane-based enamel paints that you can have your Teeter's Telescopes and Accessories eyepiece rack finished with. Two such varieties are pictured above, the top rack having no stain but finished with Marine Spar Varnish and the bottom rack having three coats of Natural Stain with three of Marine Spar Varnish.

Stained finish comes with:

Four coats of wood-stain (inquire about the current brand being used) finished with 4 coats of clear high gloss Marine Spar Varnish to protect the wood from moisture during observing. Colors currently offered:

Cherry

Natural

Red Mahogany

Painted Finish comes with:

Four coats of polyurethane-based enamel (usually high gloss, but inquire about satin or flat finishes) and if desired 4 coats of clear polyurethane.

Installation:

Installation of Teeter's Telescopes and Accessories' eyepiece racks was designed to be as uncomplicated and painless as possible. We know that not everyone is Mr. Fix-it. Therefore, there are but a few easily followed steps to installing your new eyepiece rack. They will be sent along with your eyepiece rack, but are also printed here:

Mounted flush into the back of the eyepiece rack you will find two threaded aluminum inserts. Given to you, on your invoice with your order, will be the separation of those bolts, but you can measure them yourself as well.

Taking that measurement you will then drill two level holes (diameter will also be included with your order; it's very dependent on how many 2.00" eyepieces the rack will be carrying - the more there are the larger the bolts) into and completely through the side of your rockerbox.

Taking the two bolts that are also included with your order, you will place them through the holes you just drilled and into the back of your eyepiece rack. Use a screw driver to snug the eyepiece rack up to your rockerbox.

This design has proven to hold the largest of 2" eyepieces without flexure.
